Every year, natural calamities like flood and cyclones of occurs in the southern part and coastal strip of West Bengal. This year, on 13th of September 2024, a well-marked low pressure are formed over the northeast Bay of Bengal and South-East Bangladesh intensifying into a depression on 14th of September. This depression moved across coastal Bangladesh and Gigantic West Bengal and further made deep depression over it.

As a result, heavy rainfall occurred few days and discharge of water from Damodar Valley Corporation and Kangsabati dam, unable to hold excess water, has led to severe flooding in southern West Bengal, and affected over 2.5 lakhs residents. Six districts are significantly impacted, including Birbhum, Bankura, Howrah, Hooghly, North and south 24-Parganas, East and West Medinipur and Paschim Bardhaman. The worst affected areas were Ghatal in West Midnipur and Udaynarayanpur in Howrah. The release of water from the dams and reservoirs has worsened the situation in Ghatal. The Dwarakeshwar river has breached as well causing floods in Hooghly. This led people to leave their homes in search of a safe, secure and elevated places. The flood has also caused a lot of damage to the crops as it got washed away by flood water and in most of the areas water remain stagnant.

Neha's Hope (India), with the well-wisher and partners have come into action to provide relief to the flood affected people. Proverbs 22:9 says, "The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor". Neha's Hope members, with their pastors, leaders and evangelists made a bag-pack of essential food items water and clothes on the hired a boat to reach the interior of the worst affected areas and many people have taken sheltered themselves on the roof of their house as their houses is full immerged in flood water. Areas where Neha's Hope could reach with its available resources are: Haridaspur, Mann Para, Maharajpur, Anandapur, Mandaripur, Ghatal etc. More than 300+ people got relief of Bag-pack for few days. We are thankful to the lord, as our Lord is using us as an instrument to provide relief, who are in distress. May these people know the Love of the Lord and except the lord as their saviour.
